Cook County Courthouse and City Hall, Randolph and LaSalle, 1895, Chicago
Built 1885, demolished 1905-1908.
Too heavy and an awkward design caused this monstrosity to be demolished in 1905 after sinking 6 inches, which caused a gas-line to rupture, blowing the roof off.
“I have a habit of falling in love with souls who have yet to be at peace with their bodies, their minds, their weaknesses. I try to build them, to find the parts of them that are missing in me. I end up with holes in my chest.”— Farah Gabdon (via quotemadness)
“I’m caught between trying to live my life, and trying to run from it.”— Stephen Chbosky (via quotemadness)
